THOR Solutions, LLC is seeking candidates to fill Electrical Engineering positions providing U. S. Navy Surface Ship In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) support to Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division (NSWCPLD), Propulsion and Power Systems Division, Steam and Diesel Electric Power Automation, Generation & Distribution Branch (Code 442) and operational surface ships for the ships electrical power generation and distribution and control systems.

These positions are Electrical Engineering positions at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division involving the execution overhauls and modernization of U.S. Navy LHD and LHA Amphibious ship classes.

Duties performed are in support of the ISEA providing support to Life Cycle Management and Modernization of LHD and LHA Amphibious ship classes.

Incumbent(s) performs professional engineering duties related to the work of the division.  Duties include but are not limited to providing engineering/technical support, planning support, operations (project) support.

Qualified candidates must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain/maintain a SECRET Clearance.

Travel for qualified candidates will be approximately 30%, primarily (but not limited to) to San Diego, CA.

  • A SECRET Clearance is required for this position.  Qualified candidates must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain/maintain a SECRET clearance.

Required Education, Skills, & Experience

  • HS Degree minimum
  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience in U.S. Navy or Maritime power distribution and control systems.
  • Provide LHD/LHA Amphibious Ship Class In-Service Engineering Electrical Support with a background on electrical power distribution and control systems.
  • Ability to read, understand, and develop electrical installation drawings for ship alterations.
  • Research parts using datasheets and interface with vendors/distributers to identify components required for installation.
  • Ability to read, understand, and generate ladder logic control schematics.
  • Create functional flow diagrams for high level concept of operations, create software requirements documents, technical manuals, and test procedures for lab and shipboard testing.
  • Interface, brief, coordinate waterfront support including ships force, sponsors, and installation teams.
  • Ability to manage time and communicate in a fast paced, highly integrated industrial, technical, and project management environment.
  • Competency with standard Microsoft Office applications, such as Visio, Project, Word, and Excel is required. Competency in AutoCAD is beneficial.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Experience specific to providing support of the LHD Class Mid-Life Modernization Electric Plant upgrade program goals are:

  • Eliminating high total ownership cost while addressing obsolescence.
  • Providing the class with dependable, sustainable Electric Plant generation, distribution, controls and commonality.
  • Giving ship’s force greater situational awareness and flexibility over the entire plant with PMP and Ring Bus.

  • Generator Replacement
    • Brushless Design
      • Eliminates Carbon Contamination
      • Lower Maintenance, Less Equipment Downtime & Failures
      • More Dependable Operation
  • Brushless Design Allows for Replacement of Obsolete Voltage Regulators
    • New Seals Eliminates Oil Contamination
    • Replacing with Modern Generator is one piece toward achieving Ring Bus capability
  • New Digital Voltage Regulators (DVR)
    • This is a part of generator replacement SCD - New Design Advantages
      • Replace Obsolete VR/consistent with brushless excitation
    • Current regulators and parts are no longer available
      • Digital vs. Analog Control
    • Greater system stability and ease of operation
      • Greater Survivability
    • Redundant Regulators with seamless transfer between the two
      • Remove problematic relay based cross current compensation network
    • Increased reliability & reactive load control/sharing

Travel Requirement
