Job Description

The Engineering Technician V will provide support to a US Navy organization relating to fleet
support and analysis in engineering and logistics. Support includes performing non-routine
and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete
project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project. This
individual selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs, or layouts, contacts personnel in
related activities to resolve problems, and coordinates the work, reviews, analyzes and
integrates the technical work of others.

  • Design, develop, and construct major units, devices, or equipment; conduct tests or experiments; analyze results and redesign or modify equipment to improve performance.
  • Develop designs for equipment without critical performance requirements that are difficult to satisfy. Analyze technical data to determine applicability to design problems; select from several possible design layouts; calculate design data; prepare layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, procedures. Check and analyze drawings or equipment to determine adequacy of drawings and design.
  • Provide technical analyses support of system performance data. Enter detailed technical data into data management systems and develop summary reports.
  • Perform and monitor root cause analyses of failures on system components, including logistics, price quotes, failure analysis reports, and funding allocations.
  • Perform technical analyses of maintenance procedures and provide technical changes to maintenance procedures, as necessary.
  • Plan or assist in planning on-site tests to evaluate equipment performance. Determine test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures. Analyze and evaluate test results, and prepare reports on findings and recommendations.

An active SECRET clearance is required for this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Technical school diploma required.
  • 5 years of work related experience in electrical/electronic systems required, including a combination of non routine and complex assignments; planning and conducting complete projects of relatively limited scope or a portion of a large and more diverse project;
  • Experience should include selecting and adapting plans, techniques, designs, or layouts; ensuring technical accuracy; and training and assisting junior technicians; experience must include design, development, and construction/assembly of devices and/or equipment, supporting tests and/or experiments, and analyzing performance and results;
  • Experience should include analysis of technical data to determine design problems; analyze layouts, calculate design data, and/or prepare layouts, specifications, parts lists, estimates, procedures, and/or drawings;
  • Uniformed, civilian, and/or contractor experience with the US Navy and Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport is required.
