Job Description

To further support the US Coast Guard and Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), THOR has an opening for a Junior Marine Engineer. In support of US Coast Guard and SPAWAR, this position will execute and manage the following tasks required to provide engineering and technical support in studying, analyzing, and evaluating designs:

  • Provide support to include the following technical discipline areas: Icebreaking Performance, Propulsion Systems, Auxiliary Systems, Deck Systems, Boat Handling Systems, Stores/Cargo Handling Systems, Store/Cargo Handling Systems, Control Systems, Electrical Systems, C4ISR
  • Provide support for white paper and analyses within the following areas: Naval Engineering, Naval Architecture, Test and Evaluation, Logistics, C4ISR, and Program Management as required
  • Conduct studies and analyses, such as weight studies, arrangement studies, distributed system checks, electrical load analysis updates, and safety/human factor engineering studies to better determine the complete scope of performance, configuration, and ILS impacts of the EC/TCTO and to refine the associates cost estimates and change forms
  • Review technical deliverables pertaining to all HM&E and C4ISR systems, including the ship's structure, main propulsion, auxiliary, electrical generation and distribution, and damage control systems, as well as all electronics and communication systems to analyze and provide recommendations and input to the government in these areas
  • Provide support in shipboard design, software and systems integration for all shipboard C4ISR and weapons systems

Job Requirements

Security Clearance Requirement:

Must currently have an active SECRET clearance or have had a SECRET clearance that is currently in a dormant status


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:

  • A Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline plus zero (0) to three (3) years to relevant experience
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication and presentation skills
  • Sound business ethics, including protection of proprietary, confidential, and classified information
  • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Desired experience with CAD programs: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, etc.
  • Anticipated travel requirement: Less than 10 percent
