Job Description

THOR Solutions is actively seeking an Engineering Technician IV or V in support of the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center. The ideal candidate will have had experience on a Landing Platform/Dock  Naval Vessel. This position will provide technical electrical support for propulsion plant, power generation and auxiliary electrical systems onboard Navy vessels. 

In support of this position, the ideal candidate must provide technical assistance and problem resolution with instillation, modification, repair, maintenance, troubleshooting and testing of all or most of the following:

  • New and existing electrical cables,
  • Power and lighting circuits and distribution,
  • Marine electrical systems,
  • Ship Service Diesel Generator (SSDG) engine controls,
  • Gas turbine, steam turbine, and diesel generator sets including exciters,
  • Electric/digital/hydraulic governor control systems,
  • Synchronizer controls and the systems that support the operation of the system,
  • 400 HZ Converters and associated equipment,
  • Degaussing systems and associated equipment/cables,
  • Electric/electronic control, detection, alarm sensing, indicating, and monitoring systems and equipment,
  • Propulsion generators, motors, Auxiliary Propulsion Motors (APM), Hybrid Electric Drive System (HEDS), and associated controls,
  • Battery chargers, power supplies, line voltage regulators, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), and batteries,
  • Auxiliary motors and controls including automatic speed control, and associated controllers,
  • Switch gear including instrumentation, controls, circuit breakers, reverse power relays, load shedding devices, Multi-Function Monitoring (MFM), Generator Protection Module (GPM) and No Break Power Supply (NBPS),
  • Miscellaneous systems such as Lube Oil Purifier Heaters , Vent fog precipitators, and Helicopter Electrical Servicing Station/Aircraft Electrical Servicing Station (HESS/AESS),
  • All associated system controllers (for ex. Gun Control) that require electrical monitoring (utilizing power analyzers) or troubleshooting outside of Code 262 electrical expertise,
  • Cathodic Protection, Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP)
  • Motor generator sets including voltage and frequency regulators and 

  With regards to the systems listed above the ideal candidate will:

  • Provide technical support for power distribution systems including 4160 VAC, 1000VDC, 450VAC, 115 VAC, and any associated systems and components such as lighting, cables, automatic bus transfer (ABTs) switches, circuit breakers, transformers, and other applicable equipment.
  • Provide distance support to U.S. Navy ships, establishing necessary communication with Ship’s Force representatives to obtain a complete description of symptoms related to the electrical system deficiencies, conduct necessary investigation, research and provide technical resolution and supporting information related to cause and the required corrective action.
  • Assist with research and resolution of Departures for Specification.
  • Provide support to Engineering Service Requests, including work specification review, Inspection Deficiency Report and Condition Found Report resolution, and review of Process Control Procedures.
  • Support cableway inspections and identify deficiencies of shipboard electrical cable hazards and corresponding level of priority and provide repair recommendations.
  • Provide technical support of Machinery Control Systems.
  • Provide logistical support to the Fleet by reviewing technical manuals and submitting feedback reports, reviewing drawings and submitting appropriate feedback if changes are required, and liaison with logistical stakeholders in obtaining information that may be required by the Fleet to assist in Fleet Tech Assists.
  • Perform the necessary out briefs to Ship’s Force representatives including ship’s officers and supporting personnel to include command management and executive staff.
  • Conduct Pre-Deployment Electrical Power Survey and Inspection (PEPSI) on applicable ship classes (ex. CVNs and LHDs) related to the AIMD department.
  • Assist NAVSEA in inspections, functional checks and functional demonstrations of major systems on new construction ships, major conversions, TSRAs, TYCOM, TMIs, PIAs, and
  • RV MIs.

 

 

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Experience: 

  • 7+ years of hands on experience in the skills listed above.
  • Additional vocational or technical education.
  • Interested persons must be U.S. citizens
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license and passport
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a required government security clearance and access to CLASSIFIED information and up to and including SECRET. All personnel are required to have a favorable adjudicated National Agency Check and Credit Check (NACLC) with clearance eligibility determined by DOD Central Adjudication Facility.
  • Must be able to gain access to the San Diego Naval Bases and Local Shipyards.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC).
