Job Description

THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated Naval Architect with 3 – 10 years’ experience in support of the US Coast Guard. The position will provide HM&E engineering support services to the USCG in Washington, DC.  The contractor will provide technical support in the following areas: vessel Hull Form and stability, Weights, Structures, Powering and Resistance, and Propulsion.

The individual will support the US Coast Guard by providing technical assessments of  shipbuilder design deliverables, support in development of HM&E systems specifications, support in development of Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) and Data Item Description (DID) documents, develop Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO) & Engineering Changes (EC), draft Statements of Work and cost estimates in support of post-delivery activities, and work on ship construction and repair specifications.

Security Clearance Requirement:

  • An Active Secret Clearance is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Experience:

  • BS in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of engineering disciplines related to ship feasibility, concept, preliminary and contract design, design integration, stability analysis, structural analysis, hydrodynamic and sea keeping analysis and vessel arrangements.
  • Experienced with government vessel design, construction, and repair with primary focus-ons: Hullform and Performance, Weights and Stability, Area/Volume Requirements, Structures, Deck Systems, Boat Handling Systems, Stores/Cargo Handling Systems, Outfitting and Arrangements, Physical Model Test Planning Assessments, Integrated Topside Design.
  • Qualified candidate shall have experience performing detailed design and analysis in order to evaluate planned engineering changes in support of major shipbuilding acquisition and repair projects.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in Icebreaker Design and Construction Standards and Icebreaking aspects of vessel Hull Form, Structures, Powering and Resistance, and Propulsion.
  • Support the government in developing technical responses to contractor’s questions.
  • Provide technical support to assist the government in development of HM&E and Auxiliary System Specification.
  • Provide support which includes updating the System Specification, SOW, CDRLs, and Indicative Design to adjudicate issues.
  • Author trade studies for the WCC indicative design
  • Draft System Specification for HM&E systems for WCC RFP Release.
  • Maintain master equipment list for the WCC indicative.
  • Provide subject matter expertise reviewing OPC construction CDRLs
