Job Description

THOR Solutions is actively seeking an Electrical SME in support of the Deck Self-Assessment and Groom Team. This position will provide electrical subject matter expertise to Navy Surface Ships during D-SAGT events. The ideal candidate will be motivated from wanting to teach and pass on SME level knowledge to current junior sailors. The THOR D-SAGT Team provides for shipboard training and delivery of the D-SAGT training products, the Program Office developed Authoring Instructional Material (AIM)-quality training products. These training products include system-level lesson plans, trainee guides, and pre- and post-instruction testing materials for Deck Systems.  This position will participate in some or all of the following evolutions:

  • Deliver D-SAGTs as directed. Each D-SAGT event will normally consists of the following:
    • Self-Assessment Training on each ship’s D-SAGT systems.
    • Classroom Training Instruction on pre-selected deck system (s) using D-SAGT material delivered by the D-SAGT Mobile Training Team to consist of Deck, and Electrical/Mechanical D-SAGT subject matter experts
    • Deliver training curricula to each command’s leadership for use in their scheduling and implementation of shipboard Deck System training.
  • Coordinate and assist in the training and development of the assigned Sailors.
  • Identify deficiencies in Deck System documentation, procedures and operations, and provide recommended solutions.
  • Provide continued SME support between D-SAGT execution events. This support shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:
    • D-SAGT curriculum sustainment, to include review and updating, as required.
    • Train-the-trainer events
    • Formal, lifecycle curriculum reviews to include courses both under development and completed
    • Training equipment and simulator reviews and inputs in support of course development efforts
    • Participate in stakeholder forums such as TYCOM readiness and Seamanship Wholeness reviews
    • Provide technical reach back services and support for surface ships


Job Requirements

Security Clearance Requirement:

  • An Active Secret Clearance is required for this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as Electrical Systems Technician (afloat) EM.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting power and lighting circuits, electrical fixtures, motors, generators, controllers, switchboards, voltage and frequency regulators, alarms and electrical test equipment.
    • Electrical Safety including Tag-out/Lock-out and deranged equipment safety protocols.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with Joint Fleet Maintenance principles, practices, processes and administration.
  • Experience as a Maintenance & Material Management Coordinator (3MC) (preferred).
  • Experience at Intermediate Maintenance Activity including experience with Quality Assurance (preferred).
  • At least one tour of duty at one or more of the following assignments:
    • Afloat Training Group Instructor
    • Naval Beach Group
    • Navy Safety Center Deck Systems Analyst
    • Electrical INSURV Assessor
