Job Description

To further support the U.S. Coast Guard, THOR has an opening for a Senior Electrical Engineer. In support of U.S Coast Guard Headquarters, Office of Naval Engineering’s Ship Design Team (SDT), (CG-459), this position will execute and manage the following tasks required in meeting development, integration and requirements traceability goals for New Construction Cutters:

  • Participate in Integrated Project Team meetings and related working groups in support of New Construction Cutter architecture development and integration
  • Support program requirements and architecture reviews to present progress, status, plans and issues associated with performance
  • Develop baseline requirements and architecture for New Construction Cutters based on acquisition and requirements documents
  • Conduct analysis of functional and performance requirements
  • Analyze requirement gaps and discrepancies
  • Develop, update and provide electrical architecture baseline artifacts: Electrical systems architecture requirements traceability matrix, operational views, system views, and technical views
  • Integration of vendor-developed architecture
  • Support evaluation of cyber security requirements
  • Detail design CDRL deliverable review
  • Support New Construction Cutter risk management process by assisting in identifying, analyzing, tracking and mitigation plan development of C4ISR requirements and architectural risks
  • Incumbent plans, coordinates, develops and evaluates designs of shipboard machinery plant control and monitoring systems, interior communication systems, and integrates instrumentation and alarm functions for these systems with the cutter’s data bus.
  • Develops control and monitoring system and interior communication systems hardware and software specifications, applying industry and regulatory body requirements appropriate and applicable to the cutter design.
  • The position requires 20% travel.
  • Have the ability to execute a ship check at a shipyard.

Job Requirements

Security Clearance Requirement:

  • A current active SECRET clearance is desired.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Experience:  The qualified candidate shall possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in one of the following marine fields: electric propulsion systems; machinery control systems; power generation and distribution systems; or interior communications systems.
  • A minimum of at least one (1) year demonstrated experience with shipbuilding acquisitions.
  • A minimum of at least one (1) year demonstrated experience supporting a major system acquisition program (DHS/USCG Level I, DoD ACAT I or equivalent).
  • Be able to work independently with minimal guidance
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication and presentation skills;
  • Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary, confidential and classified information.
  • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated experience with SKM Power Tools or other related load coordination software

Required Education:

  • A Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering or BS in Marine Engineering (Electrical)
  • Or PE License plus ten (10) years of relevant experience; or
  • Or HS Diploma plus eighteen (18) years of relevant experience.
