Job Description

To further support the Military Sealift Command (MSC), THOR has an opening for a Senior Engineer with a USCG License or PE in Norfolk, VA or Washington, DC.  This position will provide engineering services in the areas of Marine and Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering, Materials Engineering to MSC.

  • Provide engineering and techncial services related to the following areas:
    • Fluid systems
    • Diesel, Steam, and Gas Turbine Propulsion Systms
    • Auxiliary systems
    • HVAC system analysis / design / calculations
    • Machinery Controls
    • Monitoring and control systems analysis
    • Deck / hull machinery analysis
    • Modeling/analysis of marine and mechanical systems
    • Fire-fighting and damage control systems
  • Assist with Ship Material Assessment and Readiness Testing (SMART), Onboard Condition Inspection (OCI) Surveys, Hull and Structural Surveys, Machinery Surveys, and Machinery Requirements Analysis.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to support ship checks, surveys, and inspections of MSC vessels.

Job Requirements

Required Security Clearance:

  • A CONFIDENTIAL clearance is required for this position.

Certification Requirements:

  • Actively holds  or previously held USCG Merchant Marine Credential, with the following rating and endorsements:  minimum First Assistant Engineer of Steam/Motor/Gas Turbine, Unlimited Horsepower

or

  • Current Registration as a Professional Engineer

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related program.
  • Eight (8) years of related post-graduate technical design experience related to commercial and/or U.S. Naval Ships.
  • Experience in commercial ship operations with an emphasis on material readiness and maintenance studies, reliability engineering and technical data review.
  • A USCG Merchant Marine Credential, with the following rating and endorsements: minimum of a First Assistant Engineer of Steam/Motor/Gas Turbine, Unlimited Horsepower. Or registration as a PE

Travel Requirement:

  • Up to 25%
